Putting Politics in it’s Place

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that politics seems to have infiltrated all aspects of life?

It just seems like we can’t get away from it. Turning off the news isn’t enough. It’s on social media, TV shows, sports, even product advertisements and it seems like everything has become political.

I find myself asking how this happened and what changed?

And then I saw it. Government and politics have become an idol in America. We’ve elevated the role of government in our lives so much so that it has become our source for everything. Every problem we face as a nation has become the responsibility of the government to fix. And as a result, the perceived fate of our nation and our lives are contingent upon who gets voted into public office.

There is a spirit of unrest and division among us because we can’t agree on which causes are the most important. The sides that we choose to be on and the causes we rally behind are based on which causes we put the most emphasis on, so no side is totally right and no side is totally wrong.

But there is one thing that we as Christians in this nation should be able to agree on. We have a God and He is our source. Not the government. The power does not belong to the president, congress, or any elected officials, it belongs to God.

For in him was created the universe of things, both in the heavenly realm and on the earth, all that is seen and all that is unseen. Every seat of power, realm of government, principality, and authority–it all exists through him and for his purpose!

Colossians 1:16 TPT

We also have an enemy and it is not each other. We do not have to live with an “us versus them” mentality because we are on the same team. We are Christians, we are Americans and our true enemy, Satan, the father of lies, has been at work attempting to create division. His goal is to keep us from focusing on what is truly important and that is unity among God’s people.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:12 NIV

In this upcoming election there is a 50/50 chance that your candidate(s) will not win. Some of us are going to be disappointed. But regardless of who is selected, remember that ultimately God is in control. His ways are not our ways.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Psalm 118:8-9 ESV

It’s time to put government and politics back in its place and instead put our trust in God. So this November I plan to focus on doing 3 things:

Pray. Vote. Trust.

Pray for wisdom, vote my convictions, then trust in God.

Do your part. Get involved. Then allow the peace that surpasses all understanding consume you as you release the outcome to the one who has the ultimate authority.

    1. I am in agreement with you. God is in control. We need to put our trust in Him and pray that His will be done in the United States of America. God is a God of love and justice so our prayer should be that He raises up someone who will carry out His will. Like you. I Trust, Pray and Vote.

  2. I couldn’t agree more. Sadly politics has become the center of our lives. We have allowed the government to take control and infiltrate our existence. We need to put God back in to our lives and remember that only with his blessing can life move forward. If you are truly a Christian you can not allow schools to dictate your beliefs. I no longer have children school age but if I did and the schools refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance or remove God from everything this nation was founded on I would consider home schooling my child.
